Questions and Answers

If you are new to the area, or have not been to a Church in a while, you may have a few questions. Here are a few questions together with answers that may be of help ;

Where exactly is St James’?
St James is located in Rosefield Place, just off Rosefield Street, which runs from beneath the Railway Bridge down to the Portobello High Street.

Do I have to be a member to come ?
No, not at all. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in any of our activities.

Do you have to believe in God to come to Church ?
Most people might think that this is a no brainer and that the answer is ‘yes’. However, the actual answer is ‘No’. Both those who believe and those who are seeking God are most welcome.

Is there a dress code ?
Gone are the days of ‘Sunday Best’ and having to turn out in a suit or a dress. Simply wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

What happens during a typical service ?
Hymns and Songs are sung, a variety or worship books are used, there are prayers and readings from the bible. The Minister will talk to the congregation about a subject or subjects of their choice throughout the service.

Is Church for those of all ages ?
All are welcome. For example Children are welcome at any service and if they wish they can go to crèche or join in with the Sunday School.

St James has wheelchair access and assistance is available.
