Edinburgh & Portobello

Although it used to be a town in its own right, Portobello is now a suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city. Portobello is often referred to as Edinburgh's Seaside since it is situated on the Firth of Forth.

Here are a few selected links to local websites. St James' has no responsibility for the content of any external website.

For Children

There are lots of great sites on the web for children. Here are out recommendations!

Community Projects

St James, like many churches have a number of projects ongoing to help the needy in the community, both local and far away. Here are a number of the projects we're involved in:

  • Fresh Start - A project to help underpriviledged people with home needs such as cleaning and cooking equipment.
  • Missionary partner - St James' missionary partner is Dr Alison Wilkinson, a doctor based at the Chogoria hospital in Kenya. Read her latest update letter here.
  • Christian Aid - St James' often holds events and collections for Christian Aid, overseas appeals being an excellent example.

Geneological Searching

We are often asked for help in tracing relatives and families. Where we are able to help in some instances, there are a number of on-line resources that may be of help. Some of these are listed below.

  • Origins.net - An enormous database of births, marriages, baptism, death and census records from across the British Isles
  • Scottish Geneology Society - The society promotes interest in Scottish Ancestry and provides a number of resoures that can help determine your family history.
  • Scottish Roots - A professional Scottish Genealogy service that will undertake ancestral research into your Scottish family history
